I am a process-based multidisciplinary artist whose work explores the intersection of painting and sculpture. I grew up in the Midwest and have been based in Cortez, Colorado, for the past three years. Earning my Bachelor of Fine Arts with a concentration in sculpture; my background continues to shape the way I approach materials, form, and surface across my work.

Working across painting, ceramics, analog photography, and mixed media, Knaggs is drawn to experimentation and the dialogue between disciplines. While she enjoys exploring a variety of mediums, painting has remained the most accessible and consistent part of her practice. She is particularly drawn to large-scale works and often incorporates layered materials and sculptural elements, creating paintings that blur the boundary between two- and three-dimensional art.

 

Rather than beginning with a fixed image in mind, Knaggs typically starts with an intuitive underpainting, building layers until forms and narratives begin to emerge. She then works to develop and emphasize these discoveries while leaving room for ambiguity and personal interpretation. One of her favorite aspects of exhibiting her work is hearing what others see in it. The stories, emotions, and imagery viewers discover are often different from her own, and she values these conversations as an extension of the creative process.

 

In addition to her fine art practice, Knaggs holds a degree in Outdoor Product Design and Development, where her passion for sustainability informs her approach to making. She enjoys repairing, altering, and upcycling worn gear, carrying the same curiosity for materials and transformation into both her artistic and design work. Across disciplines, her work reflects an interest in process, reinvention, and the unexpected possibilities that emerge through careful observation.
